Through iron gates, where shadows lie,
A world unseen, beneath the sky.
Within these walls, a different land,
I stand as a guardian, strong and grand.
A corrections officer, a role I bear,
In this realm of struggle, pain, and despair.
With watchful eyes, I navigate the night,
Balancing justice, compassion, and might.
Within these walls, stories untold,
Lives shattered, dreams put on hold.
Each face I encounter, a chapter unwound,
In this complex tapestry, where hope is found.
I witness broken spirits, burdened souls,
In search of redemption, elusive goals.
Yet, amidst the darkness, flickers of light,
Resilient hearts yearning for what's right.
Behind the bars, I offer a hand,
A voice of reason, a beacon in demand.
In moments of doubt, I find the strength,
To guide and uplift, regardless of length.
The echoes of laughter, rare and sweet,
In fleeting moments, as joy takes its seat.
A smile, a nod, a connection so pure,
Amidst the chaos, it's a treasure to secure.
But the weight I carry, it bears a toll,
Through sleepless nights, it takes its role.
For I am but human, with battles unseen,
Carrying the weight of lives in between.
Yet I press on, with unwavering grace,
Embracing challenges I face in this space.
For I believe in transformation's might,
That even behind bars, souls can take flight.
In this realm of contrasts, shades of gray,
I strive to make a difference each day.
With empathy, firmness, and unwavering care,
I walk this path, aware and aware.
For life, within these walls, still beats,
In every heart that silently pleads,
To find redemption, to seek a new start,
I stand as a guardian, playing my part.
